Jaco Pastorius - Catch Me If You Can

M17-CoverJW-350Jaco Pastorius made a seismic impact on the role, and voice, of the humble bass guitar, arriving with a bang in the mid-1970s he took the music world by storm. As solo artist, star sideman and a lynchpin member of Weather Report, helping catapult the group to incredible success, he seemed light-years ahead of anyone else. A decade later and his personal demons, drink and drug abuse and increasingly erratic behavior eroded his huge success and resulted in his tragic death, aged just 35. Now with the release of a vital new Pastorius live document, Live in NYC: The Complete 1982 NPR Jazz Alive! Recording, issued on the Resonance imprint on triple vinyl especially for the 10th anniversary of Record Store Day, Stuart Nicholson seizes the opportunity to survey the bassist's revolutionary approach, with input from Peter Erskine, Pat Metheny and Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, who all acknowledge how Jaco's huge legacy lives on today
