Over the past decade New York guitarist Mary Halvorson has followed her mentor Anthony Braxton on a voyage of eclectic discovery, her music taking in avant-jazz, hardcore improv and abstract rockist moves, while her latest project, Code Girl, sees her pursue her passion for skewed song-forms. Selwyn Harris caught up with Halvorson and spoke with her about her genre-busting sonic adventures,the current state of gender equality in jazz and music's positive power in our dark political times
